I felt like the ground shifted beneath me.

“You let me choose you without knowing the truth,” I said to him.

“You took that choice away.”

I placed the papers down.

“You need to leave,” I told him.

“Where am I supposed to go?” he asked, voice breaking.

I let out a sharp laugh. “I figured that out at seventeen. You will too.”
