My 15-year-old daughter kept complaining about nausea and severe stomach pain. My husband brushed it off and said, “she’s just faking it. Dozens of people turned into hundreds as they each arrived carrying a bottle of water in their hands. They placed the bottles carefully along the walkway leading to the church as a quiet tribute to the man.

By the time the service began, the path had turned into a river of clear plastic bottles shining in the sun. Mike stood beside Officer Garrett and neither of them could find the words to speak.
