Nora sat at the old kitchen table sorting through her medications, small bottles lined up neatly beside her. At seventy-five, arthritis and heart failure had taken away most of her strength. Even organizing pills had become exhausting.

Lila lingered quietly near the doorway.

“Morning, sunshine,” Nora said in her rough voice without looking up. “Big day today.”

Lila nodded softly.

“You’re doing amazing, Grandma. I’m proud of you.”

Nora smiled faintly. “Your mama would be proud too.”
