White House officials confirmed on Thursday that President Donald Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a common vascular condition that affects blood flow in the legs. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made the announcement in Washington, D.C., stating that the diagnosis followed observations of mild swelling in the president’s lower legs.

Chronic venous insufficiency occurs when the valves in the leg veins weaken or become damaged, making it difficult for blood to return efficiently to the heart. This leads to blood pooling in the lower extremities, causing swelling (edema), aching, heaviness, and sometimes skin changes. The condition is particularly prevalent among adults over 70 and is generally not life-threatening, though it requires ongoing management.
